They bring back many handicrafts to sell in our community and I am sure the prices asked are much more than on the street in India. In this case, they have bought handicrafts like jewelry, clothing, CD's, statues, etc. at the local asking price and have resold here in the USA. Some of the money is used to pay for the trip and some of the money goes back to India as donations. I doubt if this happens in a retail store in the USA but the people producing the handicrafts have set the price for their work and there is a markup to cover cost of sales on any item being sold in any store , whether it be handicrafts or groceries, to see a return on investment. I enjoyed this article on the magazine site as the original sent to me by the author would not download pictures. There is a great need to make this type of information available to the World News services.
