This story does reminds us of Synge’s play Riders to the Sea. But as a story with a straight forward narration it makes for a compelling read. Liked it.

I absolutely agree with Tanusree, a work of art may not be always close to reality. Barnali’s short story touches the heart which is more important according to me. Kudos to Barnali!

well i am just a common reader, and as a reader i enjoyed the story truely, and as far as as my memory goes barnali never said that it is a “true story” tai akhane obastob lagar ki ache ata o ami bujlam na..r jodi “obastob ” bole golpo kharap hoe tahale to ‘shibram chakraborty ‘r “horsho bordhon -gobordhon” nie o prosno tulte hoe..amar mone hoe golpe mani r beche jawa ta e golpo ta ke r o strong koreche..onek ondhokar er modhhe akta chotto hope thakle khoti ki??

Fiction to bastab ar abastab er modhe akta stage sekhane to imagination e sresto, tae na? ‘Padma Nadir Pade’ ami porini but ‘Riders to the sea’ ami porechi. Asambhab sundar lekha sei samudrer kotha ja ak ak kore sobai ke tane niche; but amar golper inspiration kintu onno, ami hurricane Ike er por kichu news porechilam o sunechilam, sekhane kichu manus aschorjo janak bhabe banche jaowar kotha bolechilo. Adversity er modheo to hope thake, that is the moral of the story. Tumi bolbe abastab ami bolbo chance ba luck, ba in broader sense, hope.
